My legacies are all sullied.
Black spots marking failures,
Crimes against humanity.
Standing beneath the labels –
Mostly thrust upon me.
I bear them.
Playing the devil,
Not merely his advocate.
Baphomet lurking in jealousy,
Huddled at the edges of my vision.
Play the villain.
It’s what I’m good at.
Cruel,
Callous,
Divisions of antiheroes,
Antivillains,
Too complex for most.
Bearing brunts of the blood curse,
Grown accustomed to hatred.
GIVE EVERYTHING,
FOR THE GREATER GOOD.
Someone has to play the part,
Otherwise dystopia drags onwards.
Feeble.
Weak.
Selfish.
Stupid.
The masses cannot be trusted,
Yet to free them was always the goal.
Breathe in Machiavelli,
Simmer in Nietzsche.
Flex in Engels.
All this?
Merely a play.
Characters to achieve ends.
Do you know the real me?
Can you see truths lurking,
Behind veils?
You are trapped in seas of emotion.
Drowning beneath the waves.
I’ll rescue you out of pity,
In hopes you’ll learn to swim.
Then you can watch,
As I burn empires to the ground.
Dig up the roots of colonialism,
Take the adze to them.
Red fire axe from my machinery.
Free them.
Free myself from this hell,
Cast off the costume!
Black cloak and evil grin.
Until that day?
I will be everything you fear.
Push you to the limits of your growth,
Sans regrets.
I’ll hound you into your truest form.
Build society a better image,
Rip down old systems.
Promise.
I’ll be your every waking nightmare.
Hold mirrors to your evils.
Cackle as you curse me.
You want me to be your villain?
Beg for a bad guy?
Play your shadow?
I’ve gotten good at it.
Master at inciting fear,
Loathing.
Hatred.
Oftentimes I will merely sit quietly.
You do the work.
